2009.03.31 - Emma
I have never ever had it so cold on the bike as I had on Sundays World Cup. When we entered Italy on Saturday morning the rain was pouring down, and so it kept on doing until we left on Monday!
Some people thinks I love the rain… and maybe I do?!
My first podium place on a World Cup and my legs are good ![]()
The race was hard from start. Mostly because of the hard weatherconditions (rain and 4 degrees) and the wet roads. The only time I felt warm was when we were going fast up the hills…
Emma Pooley got away on the first lap and did 95km alone in the front. When I realized that we were about to chase her back I decided to try my chance on the climb. And so I did, only Marianne Vos could follow and together with her we made the gap to the peloton bigger.
With hard, wet and tired legs I came to the last corner with Marianne on my wheel. 150m to the finish I started the sprint, but she was faster… 2nd place is also good. But it can be better!
Next thing is Ronde van Flanderen on Sunday.

Congratulations Emma. I got tears in my eyes when they announced that a Swedish rider had won the Tour of Flanders today (on Sporza during the men’s race) and Jens, jumping with excitement ran to tell me. You are just unbelievably good! Ga zo door.
